It has been two weeks since my last software Saturday and it has been a very hectic week around here thus less posts and no MacLive show out. I have had a lot going on recently and hopefully it should all get back to normal soon but now back to Software Saturday.
Here is my first of the second season of Software Saturday to help those of you who have purchased an iPhone, “iToner“
I’m not sure that we can even get ringtones from Apple here in the UK yet. I sure can’t see any on my iTunes even though the little bell that indicates ringtone is next to every song in my iTunes library. Although it is nice to have Marimba the stock ringtone for the first few days. Eventually we will get sick of the tune. So what do we do when we get to this point? That’s where Ambrosia Software steps in.
Ambrosia are one of the few companies that actually has something working with the 1.1.2 and although now their are hacks to downgrade and get applications on it. You are always at risk of being bricked. iToner puts ringtones on your iPhone hack free! This means you are at no risk of being bricked (they hope) and has a really simple interface that looks like an iPhone and it just means you drag an MP3 across onto it and hit the sync button and then you are done.

As you can see it is really clean interface. In the top left corner it has the name of your iPhone (I like to be creative)(and i think we had a coffee and sugar rush from the food we got at the O2 store.)It also has the name of the ringtones you already have on your iPhone, as you can see so far I have only managed to get the 24 CTU ringtone but I will get more on later.
You can go into advanced and setup a playlist in iTunes to carry your ringtones for you and you can also preview each individual ringtone in the basic menu.
It is of course illegal to use music that you have purchased but you can throw together your own stuff in Garageband or use some creative common’s music. iToner is really simple to use and makes the iPhone feel a lot more personal. You can get the standard 30 day trail but it does cost $15 to use it forever ‘n’ ever.
For that day when Marimba gets tiring your alternative iToner gets a:
5 out of 5 stars.
Please let me know if you like these “Software Saturdays” send your comments to bumpodcast@googlemail.com and tell me what you would like to see more of or any software you would like me to review or even a piece of software you would like to review yourself.
